Draft terms of reference are:
1 Express need for guidelines for development of delivery of e-learning for
seafarers and others in the global shipping industry;
2 Formulate guidelines, possibly in collaboration with the aviation industry
and the Aviation Industry CBT Committee (AICC), and obtain GlobalMET Board
agreement to the draft guidelines;
3 Formulate strategy for promulgation and acceptance of guidelines by industry;
4 Obtain industry agreement and support for guidelines,with eventual adoption.
While there is considerable development of e-learning material for seafarers,
it appears that guidelines for delivery are needed, but before developing such
guidelines, we need to be convinced of the need. Is there such a need? Is a
needs survey necessary?
The aviation industry has had guidelines for a number of years. The AICC's
objectives are to:
a) assist development of guidelines which promote the economic and effective
implementation of computer-based training (CBT) media;
b) develop guidelines to enable interoperability;
c) provide an open forum for the discussion of CBT (and other) training
technologies.
Participation in the AICC www.aicc.org enables
learning of the best ways to develop and deploy CBT, keep abreast of recent
developments in software technologies used for training and involvement in the
development of CBT-related guidelines.
